Diabetes Type II Nation
Diabetes Type II is a condition where the body no longer responds adequately to insulin. Insulin triggers the release of sugar (glucose) which the body needs for energy production. One of the most plausible explanations of the cause of this condition is that foods, and processed substances, with a high glycemic index are put into the body such that the insulin levels spike, i.e. rise very rapidly, and more or less shock the cells into processing sugar. But the more these extreme spikes in insulin levels occur, the more the cells sort of numb up and become resistant to insulin. Eventually, this becomes a problem in that they don't respond adequately and don't process sugar well. This causes many other problems including low energy and obesity.
It seems that in analogous fashion, that we as a nation have become numb to shocking events. At some time in the early history of our nation, if we heard of corruption and lying in our government, the citizenry would react with anger and demand the culprits be removed. Perhaps, they would even be ready to take to arms to ensure they would be removed. It seems that as the scandals and shocks corruption, unethical behavior, etc. have been pounded into peoples awareness decade after decade that they have become more and more insensitive to this behavior. They have become numb and unable to respond, just as the insulin no longer is able to produce an adequate effect on the cells of the body. This has become almost a disconnected feeling. The government is no longer ours, 'We the People', but is those guys way off in the government buildings that make up laws and tell us what to do. We have come to expect a Nanny State, and the Nanny is Big Brother's bitch.
One example of how how this is done through the media is the TV Program "24". As admirable a character as Jack Bauer is, the viewer has torture scene after torture scene thrust on him, all showing how in an emergency situation it is necessary. Civil rights are routinely violated time after time on the show, because it is for the greater good and justified by the situation. Acts of terrorism are shown to be very real and horrors like nuclear explosions in U.S cities, viruses that kill millions of people, assassination attempts on the president and staff are all made to be very threatening so that we should believe Muslims are out there planning real attacks right now. And all this terror and fear is used to justify more and more outrageous violations of civil liberties because it is necessary. I can't imaging someone who watches this show for 2 or 3 seasons, and then seeing an act of torture and don't just accept it as normal. Totally numb.
And if not for the mind-tailored dramas, the 'News' programs constantly bombard us with every violent, unjust, insane act they can scavenge from the dregs of society and present it to us as if this were normal and just the world we live in. Some 1 or 2 percent of the population who are extremely unethical and commit despicable acts are made to look prominent when in fact 90 percent of the people we will every meet are very decent, hard-working, friendly people. But we don't see all the kind deeds that people do in the news everyday, unless its thrown in at the end as some cutesy piece in contrast to rest of the mind-numbing crap presented during the rest of the hour.
Were we not so numb, were we still as our founding fathers were after they wrote the Constitution, and we saw someone even suggesting the possibility of compromising our rights, we would be outraged. If we caught a public official lying or being in the least bit dishonest we would be outraged. Where is that sense of outrage? Is it still buried deep inside us, or has it been squashed in the dirt and put out like and cigarette butt.
I saw the old 70's movie Network recently. As you may remember the famous scene, and line from the movie was "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore". The slightly deranged news anchor got everyone to get up out of their seats, stop watching television, open the window and yell it out. I would love to see that really happen. Today. Before it is too late.
So what does it take to get our government back in control. Well, you won't like the answer probably. It takes paying attention. It takes making an effort to know what's going on. It takes work. It is not an easy job to figure out what's is happening in our nation, let alone the world. But we have a golden opportunity. Since the beginning of the 20th Century the Main Stream Media (MSM) has been controlled by an elite few. Seldom did anything leak out to the general population that these owners of the media didn't want to be there. But currently we are in an Information Age, where for the present, information can be passed around very quickly and efficiently on the Internet, and it is not easily controlled. Therefore, if you work at it, you can filter through the garbage and find out what is really happening in this nation and on the planet.
I don't like this work myself. It is usually not pleasant to find out how things have deteriorated, and what bad shape we are in. It really isn't even my area of interests. I much prefer theoretical physics. However, if we continue to not be aware of current conditions they will get worse and eventually get beyond repair. So, yes, it is the price of Freedom. Getting the knowledge, and taking responsibility for doing something about. And then we might be able to take control of our government and our lives.
