Interesting Biological Facts
  1. There are over 3 billion coded pieces of information in the human genetic makeup.
  2. About 10 million cells divide in the human body every second.
  3. In the human gut, cells replace themselves every 3-4 days.
  4. In human feces, about 20% of the content is slough of dead gut cells, about 40% is bacterial waste, and a small percentage is processed food.
  5. There are more bacterial cells in gut than cells making up the human body.
  6. Normal human cells do not decide to divide and grow on their own, i.e. they are not autonomous. They communicate extensively with other surrounding cells in the tissue and only divide and grow when an external communication from other cells tells them it is a good idea.

  • Question: If 20% is dead gut cells, 40% is baterial waste, and a "small percentage" is processed food, what else makes up that remaining 40%?

  • Sorry for not getting back earlier, I just saw this. I think perhaps saying a smaller percent is food would have been better. There are other miscellaneous things, but as I recall the majority of the remaining 40% was food.
